An Deò
As an initiative based in Northern An t-eilean Sgitheanach (Isle of Skye), An Deò brings moving images to communities through events of screenings and gatherings. Founded by Shen Xin, artist and resident of North Skye, An Deò also serves place-based communities that is connected through an evolving relational ecosystem of creatives and collaborators.
An Deò is a gàidhlig term that has its parallel in the Tibetan word རླུང་ (wylie: rlung), with both referring to breath of life, air, wind, and vital spark. The name has its roots in Buddhist philosophy alluding to the energies of feelings flowing through the subtle body. It stems from the embodied experience when engaging with moving images, where one is activated through the dynamic movements of knowing, sensing, thinking, and feeling against a spacious awareness in practice, facilitated by the encounter with cinema.
Organising events to connect place-based communities with moving images that are rooted in shared and innate belongings, An Deò aims to contribute in aligning our creative efforts in living and making. Working with artists and communities, this project is an affirmation of shared values in navigating an uncontrived togetherness. And it seeks, through cinema as a site of intentional gathering, to nourish rest in a sustained collectivity.

Alt text is available for all images, and audio descriptions are available where necessary. With each event, access information will be published in advance.

An Deò is a modest initiative currently run by one person. If you feel inspired to support this work, your contribution will be used for hiring community spaces and equipment, paying artists fees for presenting their films, providing hospitality, and necessary maintenance including this site. This site collects the following data as a user profile: name (optional), email address, membership status, email open rate, country signed up from, date account is created. If you are a paid-member, your information is stored according to Stripe's privacy policy. Your data will not be shared or sold to any third party. If you leave a comment your name will be visible, and any media you upload will retain its own data as a photo for example. Embedded content such as other websites you visit via this site might collect your data. The data collected via this site will be deleted when you stop being a registered user. You can always request a copy of your data or request for it to be erased.
